Recently installed dovecot and postfix under Fedora8 and it works great.
Then I installed both postfix and dovecot under VMWare Server (different
machine) copying the same configuration files but changing the hostname and
domain as appropriate.
When testing the installation using: telnet

I went into,
/home/thing/mail/.imap/INBOX
and mv'd the contents to safe/
I then re-connected and I can now re-connectDovecot re-created the
following files,
-rw--- 1 thing thing 7976 2008-04-06 12:39 dovecot.index
-rw--- 1 thing thing 18432 2008-04-06 12:40 dovecot.index.cache

Looks like Debian Dovecot itself is actually OK. To determine this firstly I
created a new user and find I can connect to the new user's inbox using
squrrelmail OK, but some old users dont work
I next connected to another user's account and that works fine...
