If this key combo really changed something "in hardware", i assume that a "hard
reset" of the notebook(?!) should solv

Is there a configuration file somewhere that allows adjustment of mouse
resolution and acceleration? Gpm is not installed by default and I
haven't been able to find anything (USB) mouse related.

We haven't use one since we purchased new custom computer desks for the
SOHO. The 'desk' is actually a slab of kitchen bench top covered
with a nice looking laminex(?) called yellow pepp
