Hello Everybody,
I am sorry to ask a basic question, but I fail to find the information
on Debian documentation. There are million of them, so I must have
missed it. My main source of reading is
https://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/maint-guide/index.en.html.
My question is quite generic as I s
Mostly I've just worked on patching or backporting existing things in the
past for local repos. I've encountered a handful of packages that don't
"clean" cleanly which is always annoying. I usually start over at that
point (eg: rm -rf and apt-get source or dpkg-source -x again so I'm in a

Hello, and thanks for your proposition.
Devuan already have a network of build servers, but we have choosen to
use a different approach from debian.
We don't use a wanna-build machine nor buildd, instead, we push ALL our

Hi James,
Thanks for the info.
Keeping Slack stable is the reason why some have picked this
excellent distro instead of a bsd during the mass migration away from
the systemd/Debian debacle.
Sure hope the same fiasco that occurred with systemd/Debian does not

Currently work is being made to offer alternatives to sysvinit in Slackware
such as OpenRC and Runit, as they are the most complete init replacement
systems. Work has been slow in progress, but there are solid efforts to bring
offerings around over at LinuxQuestions. We have been met with resist

Which raises the question: what does Patrick consider to be unavoidable?
I thought Debian would run on anything a
Runit rocks! IMHO it's one of the very best init systems, and I doubt
it would be difficult for a Devuan end user to retrofit with runit.
I don't know Patrick's or Devuan's opinion of the http://unlicense.org/
style Public Domain, but if it's acceptable, Epoch, while not quite as

I think Patrick means unless systemd becomes 100% unavoidable as a dependency.
However as replacement software is made available this will lessen.
Currently we still use udev-classic and ConsoleKit with little else, but as
KDE/Plasma5 is being looked at, things are being considered.
Runit is ni

The packages page is a well welcomed contribution!
What do you need to setting up it for devuan?

Jude, when vdev gets mature enough, could you submit an init script to the
OpenRC project, please?
Thanks,
Jim

Hi, Anto.
These are some steps I follow when packaging from uncompressed and
modified package files: (packages are made for both i386 and amd64, thus
the subdirectory names)
1.- Calculate md5sums for the modified files:
sudo su
cd ./i386_SSL
md5sum `find . -type f | g
