I'm running a very minimal install of devuan ascii on my old Apple iMac.
Using xdm to login, twm as the window manager, and xfe for file
management. Then dillo and Firefox for web-browsing.
Aptitude shows that libsystemd0 is still there but pulseaudio etc depend
on it and I have never been ab

Well, maybe, but these days you can't take that on trust. Your OS no longer
runs native on the processor - there's EFI as a shim between you

It would be naive to think that CPU producers don't build in a
backdoor. This is why I take an interest in Chinese CPUs. At this point
they are only RISC processors, but before long they should produce a
product competitive with Intel. I suppose it will also have a back door,
door, but China seems

Maybe it's this piece:

There's no release for ascii yet. You'll just have to dist-upgrade from jessie
if you want to try it.
I've been running ascii + experimental/eudev on my work desktop and laptop for
a few months without trouble.

Have you thought about LXQt? Upstream LXDE stopped development a while back and
merged with Razor-qt into the new project running on Qt instead of GTK.
Unfortunately it's only in repositories for ascii and later, so not available
on jessie.

Many thanks, KatolaZ, for the clarification. It seems that Devuan is a
welcoming community, not averse to new members, after all.

OK, so it is NOT a Devuan policy to direct people to use
dev1galaxy.org to ask their questions, notwithstanding such questions,
are unrelated to development.
Please, consider this a closed case.
If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough.

My office desktop runs KDE on Devuan, without any problems.

As far as I can tell the default is XFCE. However, Linux is not MS
Windows meaning you can start off from a base system with just a
terminal. Then, you can install whatever graphical interface you want.
