The primary issues right now are that (1) both the USRP and my
fusb_darwin codes copy LIBUSB internals to get the job done (mine is
very dependent right now, but I'll reduce that with re-programming
some things); and (2) some LIBUSB calls are made directly, while
others are through the USRP

Several folks have pointed out laws relating to transmitting and having
a ham license as a way to deal with that. Here's a rough summary of laws
in other countries relating to mere ownership of a radio capable of

On SUSE, wxPython is actually listed in YAST as python-wxGTK FYI. You
still want to replace with wxPython-2.6.1.0 after you have done the
initial YAST install since this makes sure you have all the stuff you
need ;-).
Good luck,

OK Bob,
You've given enough guidance and encouragement that I'll bump my Suse
priority up a notch. I've already found and adopted the baseline
install-- it's a good approach. Thanks for the guidance.

I have never once regretting changing over to SUSE. YAST is just too
awesome. I have gone ahead and installed gcc-4.0.2 on all my machines.
You can use the python 2.4.1 that comes with SUSE 10. I have done
python 2.4.2 but there are a few more roads to go down to get to the end
if you do.
Thanks for your response!
I did not build the GNURadio code from source. I am attempting to use
the prepackaged installers found on Martins website:

Eric,
You are right on all counts. gcc4.0 worked just fine to compile
Gnuradio. And I did try Suse10 on another system, and it installed like
a dream compared to FC4 but I could not build with it right out of the
box, so I've tabled the Suse investigation 'till later, while I continue

I followed your instructions with absolute success. Thank you for the
time and effort to document the process.

Hi, guys. I'm a newbie.
I'm planning to buy some USRPs and start learning gnu radio.
By the way, somebody told me that I need a license from FCC to use gnu radio.
And he said that getting a license is not the manufacturer's duty but mine.
Is this true?
