user friendly with a few exceptions. When we go to save, it wants to save as a
picture. Later clicking on it won't open it with any program. We are forced to

Dia should be well capable of drawing such plans. It comes with hundreds
of predefined
symbols - many of them
To embed drawings in Word, try exporting in .emf format. Save your
work also as a .dia in case you want to reload it later.
