Dia doesn't accept Chinese text

I tried out Dia-0.97.1 on WinXP but the text object doesn't accept Chinese text. The menu are properly translated into Chinese text. May be I am missing some easy step need to be configured before I can input Chinese. Any success story out there ? T.J. Yang
