How to take a screen image of the visio diagram?
I selected the visio diagram by the mouse, right clicked and run the "Copy"
menu in MS Word.
The "Paste" menu in Dia is not highlighted so I cannot paste.

Hi PoWah,
Independent if the solution provided by Michael Ross will work, I do not
know, but have you used print screen? With Paint you could select the visio
diagram. Or you could paste the image first in Paint, then save it and try
opening that in Dia.
With kind regards,

I take screen imiages different ways depending on my need for quality and
type of output.
Most often I use the free program Google Picasa. When Picasa is running I
hit Ctrl-Print Screen and the screen image is copied to a folder in My
Pcitures (using Windows XP OS). Picasa offers a number of sim
There is no paste or import function to use. To place an image in Dia you
create an image from the main menu palette. Then by using the Image
Properties you select the image file to be displayed.

Hello PoWah,
As the original developer for the Gane and Sarson shapes for Dia, I've had a
look at your problems. Your first two problems needed a bit of work but I
believe I've fixed them. I've attached a compressed file - you can extract
this into /usr/share on Linux (sorry if you're on Windows!)
I had already used print screen but Dia can not paste it.
However, Paint can paste it as you suggested it.
You are right also that "with Paint you could select the visio diagram."
I can use the select the visio diagram, right click the mouse, do the "Copy"
menu.
Then paste in the Paint program.

Not completely true:
- drag&drop the image file in a supported format e.g. from
explorer to the Dia canvas
- File/Open does open bitmap formats (internally it creates
the Image object you describe)

When given word docs with images embedded, I use the "Save as HTML"
function, which puts the images in a subdirectory there. Toss the HTML and
get your images.
Now, whether that will work for a Visio embedded image, I don't know. And
of course, your output will be a jpg, not whatever it was when i

Have you considered registering a MIME type for Dia?
2 possible type names occur to me: "application/vnd.dia" and
"application/vnd.gnome.dia"
A MIME type can be registered at iana.org
Great tool. Thanks for creating it.
