The .dia file is actually gzipped XML. Try zgrepping it !

ok - a worka round that seems to work: in case others have this problem too:
1. in dia load the image... zoom out about twice... and select all
2. move all the object to a place above and right of (0,0)
3. save
4. close dia. load anew dia
5. load diagram and export to eps seems to work

1. Zigzaglines (for example the UML inheritance lines) only work
in one direction, that is arrows point only upwards or downwards.

I have this problem, too, but it does not appear on the
command line but when I create a new UML class objects for example.
I am using debian packages. Defoma is installed.
