Holidays have come at last so I figured I might see whats been happening in
the land of dia.
Three things. Firstly, after downloading from cvs into my machine, here
were the Compiling results
that I ended up with. Can somebody help me in my dilemma of getting this
program

The problem doesn't come from dia v0.88.1 at all but from the version
compiled. I guess you are using dia v0.88.1 as distributed by Mandrake 8.1
aren't you ? Their version is VERY buggy.
To correct the problem, simply download the sources of v0.88.1 and compile
them yourself.

You're perfectly right on this one, I was using a mandrake distributed package,
and the same application coming from another source is now working fine.
And a red card to Mandrake...
