Using any version of dia I've ever seen, including 0.88.1, I note that
the export command, as in
dia --export=figures/system-arch.png figures/system-arch.dia
requires the use of of an X11 display.
Is there any possibility of removing this requirement? I produce

I'm a somewhat new Dia user on Unix (Sun). I recently lost a a lot of work I
did on a diagram because I thought I was saving it by typing Meta-s (common in
other applications), instead of the correct CTL-s. Dia doesn't complain about
Meta-s. (As far as I can see, it does nothing.)

Well, I have started to set up my system so that I can start coding the
UrShapes. I am working with the 0.88.1 sources and have created a
directory under objects called urshapes. I have also modified the build
system to recognize this directory and the sources within them. I am
