Btw, there still exists a "central" repository for Dia shapes -
http://dia-installer.de . Sadly, its maintainer, Steffen Macke, died
several years ago and I doubt anyone still manages

types, but only some of them are usable - it would be nice to have
usable types listed in the creating new shapes doc - there is IIRC only
vague mention of two types and nothing more. Fixing props like URL to
actually work as a widget would help too ;-)

will contain lots of cruft which unnecessarily complicates the shape and
creates problems with changing attributes.
Reading and editing Dia shape's XML is (relatively) easy, always prune
the weed from them before publishing the shape! Th
hapes always or
only when a local shape is not available.
Embedded shapes should be used only with the document they are embedded
in, to avoid proliferation of 'neutered' shapes and possibly some IP
issues, although that might be hard to ensure.
