I think Abyot raises some good points, especially his last one about
differenences of what the age dimension really is.
I think the biggest challenge is going to be how to unite the concepts
of a multidimensional data element (as it is currently implemented
with categories) and a data element that
Yes your suggestion is doable and less is better but I think the
requirement from the field is more complex.
If, for a moment, we stop talking about datavalues and talk about
dataelements - why are we talking about dimension combinations?

Openmrs started using liquibase because these database scripts were taken from
mysqldump and could not b used with other dbms many times. Liquibase makes it
kind of database independent.
Don't get me wrong I really love liquibase, but it also adds some xml overhead
and small but learning curve.

I had tutored one student nishtha who was learning java to implement these
beautiful looking setup screens of openmrs.
So I know its quite simple to inplement and applying updates works quite out of
the box in liquibase. Though I don't fully understand why we want to use it in
dhis.

Hi
On the back of Jason and others comments, I've reached the conclusion that
we cannot really live with the MD model the way it is. Whereas I think it
is (just about) workable there are some serious optimizations we can and
should do. I am going to put my other work back a day or two and propos

OpenMRS uses a tool called Liquibase (http://www.liquibase.org/) to take
care of database changes on application startup.
The tool keeps track of all changes to the database and updates the local

OK, so does this work on both databases (when connected to each on
seperately?) There is no need to reference the database itself (dhis2
or dhis2_znmay) when you are connected to the database itself.

I am having each database with its own connection. I actually tried to
create direct from the ODBC connection and also tried to create the
connection as I was creating the query, but both ways gives me the same
error.

Hi bob,
thanks for the response, I am using two different odbc datasource. one for
the dhis2 and the other the znzMay database.

Hi Yusuph
I haven't got excel to cross-check but I wonder if you are still "connected"
to dhis2 database when you try to make the query to the other one. Is that
how it works? You first setup a datasource then execute a query on it. If
you just change the query you would then get this error. Y
