I tried to follow the instructions from the wiki and i still get the
error.

Is there some way to ensure that the package was installed ? Also, I'm
using VirtualBox 5 , could that cause issues ? I hope not.

You need to exactly follow instruction, and you can't build it in
QtCreator, only in mersdk itself. After you follow instruction and add
that repo your build dependency error will be solved.
