Where would you say we are now sitting in terms of being able to start of a
revival of Mono for Sailfish or .NET Core for Sailfish and the Qt binding

I've tried to use SailfishSDK but I cannot build this project with QtCreator. I

The best would be to use package management tools to install the packages.
Instead of using rpm -i , try using zypper . It will bring
you the required dependencies.
Also, please note that the Mer SDK virtual machine is a "host" OS. The targets
used to build are hosted inside this OS.
