Concern about the second PR that Masaori identified. The original PR
caused asserts with a debug build.. I am testing another fix to this in
production. Looking good so far. I will update the PR shortly.
Without this patch, the 9.0.x build crashes on a production machine within
an hour.

+0, some issues are not backported or fixed yet. These will go to the next
patch release?
