Things went fine both with the blank profile and with my working
Renaming ~/openoffice gives the same result.
I assume you meant

Hmm. I would rename ~/.openoffice
However you can check the consistency of OpenOffice. what gives you
ldd /opt/openoffice4/openoffice.bin
?

Yes - but I hadn't added it to AOO; I did that in the working version,
then uninstalled again, completely wiping anything under
/opt

If the base directory still exist it might be problematic. I am not sure.
