I don’t think it needs to anonymous, but you can make it that way if you want
to. The more important part is to do it openly and transparently and involve
the whole community. I don’t see any bias here just the opportunity to involve
more people.

That would be correct but I wouldn’t let that stop you from making a new logo
now. Some projects put the word Apache in the logo so it potentially has more
protection.
