Another update: things are looking mostly good! There is only one release
blocker remaining [1] as of the time of this writing. Unfortunately, tomorrow
is a public holiday in Germany so I might not get around to creating a first
RC, sorry for that!

Hi Everyone,
We are now about a week after cutting the release-1.8 branch and things are
looking quite good! The community has worked hard on fixing bugs and test
instabilities. There are now only two issues that are marked as “blocker” in
our Jira: [1]. The first of which is about updating the
