+1 for Minio to keep things sufficiently simple. Full functional testing [
ex: using s3 ] is great. But, it doesn't seem critical for this use case?

For clarification: You are hoping that the druid operator gets donated to
the Druid project? Or, that the operator becomes its own standalone ASF
project -- thereby needing to go through the incubator? This is not 100%
