As far as basic text editors, TextWrangler is probably the best:
http://www.barebones.com/products/textwrangler/ (and it's free). Also
available via the App Store. Although the XCode editor is very nice as
well. And I've used UltraEdit on a PC, and they now have a Mac version
(cost is minimal
Apache Pivot is another project that is using Apache Extras and are
concerned about the policy change. I'm actually working on updates to
the stuff we have there that may be in jeopardy (i.e., cannot push out
my updates) until another solution is found

I was involved at one point on behalf of Pivot (where we have several
projects), and Andrea Pescetti on behalf of Open Office was also
involved (since they have a bunch of stuff there). But things have gone
quiet for about 2 months. There was a second prototype that looked
pretty good (to us)
Pivot is using Apache Extras basically for "source-code for projects
that can't..." because of licensing issues. So, my feeling is we are
different than AOO.
