We have fixed quite a few bugs and added some significant enhancements since
Apache Commons Codec 1.15 was released, so I would like to release Apache
Commons Codec 1.16.
Apache Commons Codec 1.16 RC1 is available for review here:
https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/dev/commons/codec/1.16-RC1
Thanks, that did the trick. I’ll have a release candidate soon.

I think you have to go back to Maven 3.6.x because Maven broke
compatibility with plugins, see
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/MNG-7316

Hi all, I was looking to make a new release of commons-codec. I’ve been
following the steps in [1], but when I try to create the release candidate via
the commons-release plugin, I get the following error:
[ERROR] Failed to execute goal
org.apache.commons:commons-release-plugin:1.7:detach-distr
This is the relevant bit about how we no longer need to worry about
reporting cryptography code. Thus, we're clear to make a commons-codec
release as soon as I can find some release instructions.
