Is there any user-facing documentation (for developers) that should be added? I
note that you say there is "extensive documentation"; I presume that you are
referring to the README.md in the repo?
If there is a desire to add documentation to the website, as opposed to the MD
files in the repo,
Congratulations, Mike!
I have to say how excited I am that I get to emphasize SAI as an indexing
method for Apache C*, rather than the much less capable 2i! I have been
waiting for this day for years! Thanks Caleb and all who worked to make
this day a reality!

Hi all -
I have submitted an application to the Open Collective, so that we would
have a funding mechanism to pay 1-2 technical writers if we are successful
with our GSoD proposal.
I have the GSoD proposal ready, and am only waiting for the first date for
submission, Feb 15, 2023. Here is a link

Hi Deepak -
I'll have more to post soon, but I have started working on a proposal for GSoD

I'm willing to take the lead on GSoD. Let me think about what projects I think
would benefit the docs.

This is a discussion about how to tackle getting the docs “fixed”.
As many of you know, I started months ago to convert the Apache Cassandra

The conversion required both the docs source files to be converted, but

I think it is important to keep in mind that users may be utilizing

I agree with Ben - why can other Apache communities navigate this issue,
and Apache Cassandra cannot?
I think that we grow the community when we make people aware of how
Cassandra is used. Why make new users to Cassandra search for things that
we all know exist? Help them to discover!

Thanks for the comments, Mick.
Yes, I think you are correct in what you have to say about versioned vs
non-versioned docs for the website. It's such an obvious comment that I can
only say I must have been half-asleep when Anthony and I discussed the
topic. (Maybe he was, too!)
Since Antora is one

own repo which antora can use for building, for example), but that needs
exploration.

7;m looking for in terms of knowing about tickets that
require docs.
The automation rule would still be nice, and could be triggered when
Impacts = Docs.

To address Melissa's comments - the main reason that this proposal is
offered right now is that the Documentation renewal involves a change to a
new static site generator, Antora (https://antora.org). Because of this
change, the UI for cassandra.apache.org/doc must be rebuilt using the

Hi Melissa -
Glad to hear about the marketing efforts! I'm working on an effort to
improve the Apache C* documentation, so if you have questions or
suggestions about that, I'd be happy to hear them. I'm also happy to do any
editing/reading of blogs before they go out.
