Hi folks,
Regarding our activity on the project and the adoption of Apache
Arrow, I would like to start a discussion about an Apache Arrow
Meetup, gathering contributors, users and enthusiasts about Arrow
generally speaking.
The idea is to have a community event, where a Selection Committee

Love the idea and happy to help out if people want to do it in Berlin!
We’ve organized meetups and conferences before from 50-400 people.
+1 for this, hoping that I can get funding to attend too! Lol

+1 sounds like a cool idea. If this is happening later this year, I would also
like to attend.

Hi Andrew
That's good to know ! Thanks for the info !
I think we have several contacts in Europe/France we can also leverage.
Let me prepare a quick first draft to share with the community.
Thanks !

This is great.
In case it is helpful, here is more information about what we have done for
DataFusion:
We held most of them in spaces that we didn't pay for. We rented an
office from WeWork for the first one in Austin, but otherwise the space was
donated.
We have used:

Hi Uwe
That's a good idea, but too short for this year.
I'm in touch with Antoine to see if it would make sense to collocate
with PyData Paris.
The idea is to list the possible options for this year and discuss
with the community.
I'm working on it :)
Thanks !

Hi JB,
If there is interest in the area around Frankfurt/Mannheim/Karlsruhe (it is
quite central in Europe, and Frankfurt Airport is well-connected), I can also
connect you to the local PyData chapters and the non-profit Pioneers Hub. The
only co-hosting opportunity I see this year is PyConDE i
Hi Andrew
Yes, that's a good point.
I would like to evaluate two options:
- working with partners who can help on the hosting (I'm in touch with
Modern Data Stack group, Big Data Paris, etc)
- colocate the Arrow/DataFusion meetup/summit (depending on the
length) with another event (it's something

I think it is a great idea.
We have also been discussing a smaller DataFusion style meetup in
Europe[1]. We have had good luck with both shorter (2 hours) and longer (1
day) events. My experience was that space availability was the key driver,
so I suggest organizing the event around the space you

Hi Antoine,
I think one full day is do-able. The main difference is about the
funding/sponsoring which is obviously higher.
If we have a consensus, we can start to look for sponsors, venues,
logistics, ...
Thoughts ?

Hi JB,
This is a great idea, I like it.
+1 for doing this in Europe, also less risky these days given the
geopolitical context.
Half a day is probably too short given the breadth of topics. Though, of
course, the longer the more difficult to organize (and the more expensive).
