We have decided to move issue tracking to GitHub [1] and have since
disabled opening new issues on Jira. Next step is copying old issues to
GitHub and locking Jira tracker for comments and changes. Migrated issues
are expected to look more or less as seen here [2].

I left some comments on the ticket, mostly about UX and warning rather than
erroring; Given this is likely to affect users of the arrow crate more than
the developers I think it would be a good idea to socialize the proposal
some more, perhaps on the us...@arrow.apache.org and the slack channel if

good release!
BTW we are working on a blog post about this release [1] -- we would love
more contributions and suggestions.
