We've voted to keep 1.9.x as an LTS branch for Java5 compatible versions of
Ant and move master to Java8 as baseline.

Missed this. Must admit I had forgotten it was there and it hadn't occurred to
me to check there. At the same time was thinking something on the main page
would draw more attention?
