Well, I've experienced the same problem (SIGSEGV in cairo_region_is_empty()) on several applications: chromium-browser, tomboy and eclipse for sure. Debugging the apps I found the crash was related to overlay-scrollbar, and uninstalling it worked around the problem. I reported this on Chromium Issu
