Yes, can't use OpenGL interface applications like Blender 2.78a anymore
after the driver update. I can run it but it doesn't draw the geometry
correctly and then gives a black screen with a text cursor. Blender
requires opengl 2.1 which I have and it worked fine before the update,
also running Blen

Hi Christopher, the apport-collected data above was gathered from my
main desktop, which only has Intel graphics. (I mentioned the other
system with Radeon just because it *didn't* suffer from this problem
despite having the same software. I no longer have access to that system

made me realize Chromium for Precise hasn't been updated since September
2014 and is currently at version 37
(37.0.2062.120-0ubuntu0.12.04.1~pkg917) whereas more recent versions of
Ubuntu are already at Chrom
The kernel already had this just was not entirely obvious.

Looks like Bug #1221954 is a duplicate wrt. the '80s and the '90s.
Upstream report (which I've linked to this one) says those genres have
been removed, so that leaves only Rock 'n' Roll from my report to check
for in latest upstream. (And of course, those upstream fixes haven't yet
made it into Ubu
With this workaround in place, desktop wallpaper (on the working
display) cannot be set using the 'Appearance' configuration tool, and
with automatic login the 'login screen as background' effect (the image
attached to #1) is there too. This could be Bug #1159430, and as
mentioned there, I can work

Further details: mouse cursor is briefly visible just prior to the black
(login) screen. GDM does show up on the display, but in too big a
resolution, so that I only get some of the grey background visible on
screen and still have to log in blindly.
It occurred to me that with lightdm, the symptom
I've made some progress. By setting up an xorg.conf with a modeline for
the external display, I got graphics on the (lightdm) login screen to
show up on it. But the login input fields weren't on this screen (it was
just the background), so this was further evidence that there's monitor
misdetection

Hi Thomas, sure. Yes, the bug is still reproducible in Precise (gimp
2.6.12-1ubuntu1.2), which is what I'm using on my main desktop. But the
good news is I can't reproduce it in VMs running Raring or Saucy (both
of which currently have gimp 2.8.4-1ubuntu1), so it looks like it's been
fixed in the 2
I'm happy to report that this problem has apparently been fixed at some
point. I'm currently using Linux Mint Nadia with kernel 3.5.0-25 and the
modem seems to be working just fine.

IN 12.04 at least, this seems to be tied to Xorg's blanking which by
default happens after 10 minutes/600 seconds. It can be unset via xset
on the commandline, but I finally managed to do this via xorg.conf, like
so:
