I am also seeing this behavior with a logitech HD Webcam C310. I am
running ubuntu 12.10 and am receiving the same initialization failed

I found a workaround in case anyone's interested. By redirecting stderr to a
file.
It would be something like: gnome-open myfile.pdf 2> FileWithAllTheWarnings &&
rm FileWithAllTheWarnings
Doesn't fix the problem, but at least you can now open pdf files from
the terminal without getting all those
FYI:
I did the edit of lightdm.conf and that caused problems (no window
manager?!?). I then switched to gdm and everything worked. After
switching back to lightdm everything still worked. I suspect a problem
caused by an update.
If it brakes again, I will try just switching to gdm and back aga
Happened to me on a 12.04 livecd. It found no errors either on the disk
or on memtest (prior to the message). Message popped up just after I
started the desktop installer. Everything then continued as normal :s

Still not fixed. I cannot select any session now. I can use tab, then
spacebar but it still only starts in xubuntu mode. The mode I normally
run. I cannot select GNOME, Unity or KDE.

Just popped in to check status. I haven't moved any closer to a real
solution, unfortunately. I hadn't noticed that larger images would be
cropped - sorry about that. I did vote on the bug, though. Perhaps
next time I check in, I'll have better news.

I use both Ubuntu and OSX, found that right-clicking on the image in
LibreOffice (in OSX) and selecting "Save Graphics" allows one to choose
another format.
I know, I know. What would be really useful is if I helped with a fix
for *Ubuntu* - but I have a deadline, and needed a workaround today

I don't suppose enabling cairo-gles2 instead gets around the nv bug?
Wayland will work happily w/ egl+gles2+cairo-gles2 combo..

1) I completely uninstalled and re-installed LO.
2) Created and saved a new file.
3) Closed and re-opened LO.
4) Looked at Recent Files list. It was empty.
