@Paula Thomas: there are some pathetic packages which needlessly require
certain nvidia driver packages regardless of what graphics hardware you
have. A while back some bitcoin mining software did this to my desktop,
putting it into text mode until I found the culprit.

laptop doesn't have a nvidia graphics card, I am quite surprised that an
attempt to install this package was made.

I could resolve this issue by upgrading the printer firmware to latest
version 1.40. No idea, why Ubuntu 19.04 printed happily with older
printer firmware, but as of Ubuntu 19.10 new printer firmware (can be
installed through printer web interface) is needed.

During every boot sequence, SMART commands are sent to this SSD, causing
a minute long hang, until a kernel error message appears, telling me
that some SMART command failed. Since SSDs are not the target audience
