If there is no other admin accounts in the system, it is very difficult

Sorry, I don't see any screenshot attached. May be you forgot to attach it?
In gEdit 3.2.0 statusbar shows only syntax highlight mode, insert/replace mode,
line/column count, tab width (at screenshot). There is no way to change
encoding in it =( I
So by phrase "change text encoding from editor's menu" I mean any way to
view text in another encoding from editor itself without strange actions
as going to gconf-editor and replacing some string values in it.
