No, I haven't. So the problem is that the process cannot read my
~/.Xauthority file, because it is readable only for the user.
So this is the reason, but what is the fix? Shouldn't it be passible to
launch GUI apps that need root privileges with /home over NFS? It's not
so unusual.

I confirm this problem on the following system:
- Thinkpad T61
- NVidia Quadro NVS 140M/PCIe/SSE2
- proprietary drivers 'nvidia-319-updates'
- up-to-date BIOS
It seems to have appeared in saucy, I cannot remember this happening in raring.
The impact is severe, since there is no way of recovery bes

Whatever broke, it must have broken between 12.04 and 12.10. Here is the output
