I uploaded the sample pdf though the launchpad web instead of attaching
it to an email. evince crashes for me when I try to open it.

I got this crash on xenial 16.04 today when I tried to power off a USB
device that remained after I removed it from the system. I can reproduce
this on trusty as well on another Ubuntu system with trusty 14.04.4 LTS.

claim DRM device." error messages in /var/log/Xorg.0.log disappear and

reports (eg. #809500) which say that selecting and then deselecting
"show menubar" hides the menu at the top of the screen for gnome
terminal, thus making these key combinations work, but if that ever
worked before it doesn't for me

It seems that they have removed the themes from the appearance tool, and
instead this is possible through gnome-tweak-tool. Be careful when
adding themes though, as they may not work correctly with Unity.

The mouse pointer no longer moves. I was unable to change to another VT

You were right about the extensions, thank you for the suggestion.
It appears to be caused by the "Nothing to Say" gnome extension. I
uninstalled this, and can now use the wayland session again.
It looks like it's probably the same issue as reported here (by a user running
20.04)
FYI, the upstream debian package for guile has been updated (by rlb) to fix
this.

I was looking to run cairo on wayland. A web search led me to the EGL
device. I'm guessing by buffer you mean IMAGE surface (after digging in
the headers a bit). I am happy to try that. But I'm guessing at some
point in the future peeps will want it. Thanks for digging in.
