I have the same problem. I had 11.10 installed, updated to 12.04 and now I'm
not able to shut down the system any more. The "ubuntu-screen" appears and
nothing more happens everytime I try to shutdown. I also can't get my network
card working. So I installed 12.04 complely new to ensure it was n

So far it only affects Ubuntu Unity 21.04. Main Ubuntu 21.04 doesn't
seem to have this issue and System monitor opens without any problem.

the reboot i noticed that the fan of my graphics card (nVidia GeForce
9300M G) started to spin faster than normal. So i opened nvidia-settings
and checked the temperature, it showed me it was 74 °C degrees
I am currently running a daily build from an usb-stick. Rhythmbox starts
up okay and also plays music with the mp3 plugin. Raring ringtail daily
build as of 26 November 2012.

I‘m using KDE and had that problem, too. I rather by chance changed something
in the window rules for firefox and voilà, the window reappeared when starting
firefox! So I‘m happy now. Hope this will help you too.

missing the pgbench binary in its contrib-package.
The contrib-package explicitly states, that it contains this program:

Black internal screen on my G1 820 too. May be its a problem with
function "lower screen intensity when inactive" (energy), i have
disabled it now.
