OK, so MSN working isn't a good test to see if libproxy is functioning
properly, we are now using telepathy-haze for that which uses libpurple.
libpurple is probably getting the proxy information from gsettings.

I see your point, hmmm.. the issue is when you open preferences from
the unity launcher with a right click, it is actually running "empathy
-p" which runs empathy and raises the preferences dialog. Then you
close the contact list window, activating empathy again to raise it
seems to use the "-p"

I can only reproduce this if i maximize the un-maximize and resize, but

Can you tell me what the name displayed there should be? The only
reason that would happen is if it had characters that break the markup
used to render that. I really need to know what characters are in that
name so i can make sure we handle them.
