I apologize for the long wait but, that version of ubuntu is pretty
unstable on my system. I have not gotten it to boot properly since I
posted the last bug update. It boots into the terminal and when I try
to start the graphics driver from there it crashes and says no display

I simply used the manufacturer bios update tool through windows on the
laptop then booted into ubuntu once the update was complete. The
problem persists in exactly the same manner as before. The output for
those commands are 217 and 09/07/2012 respectively.
If there is anything else I can help
13.04 I believe was the first ubuntu release I installed on it. I don't
mind testing others if it would help, just let me know which ones.

That is the 3.5 series kernel as far as I can tell.
Result without any updates, fresh install:
press suspend> computer enters suspend> immediately wakes from suspend> screen
fails to turn on.
