I'm also affected by this bug:

Sorry, I've finally found the issue on my system: /etc/sane.d/snapscan.conf had
the wrong permissions. (But that's my fault, not Ubuntu's!)
Running "SANE_DEBUG_SNAPSCAN=128 scanimage -L" put me on the right track.

Wow, this is a frustating issue! It took me hours to figure out, simply
because I couldn't believe what most solutions for older Ubuntu releases
told me: it's broken out of the box and I need to fiddle with samba
internals.
Yes a simple "sudo smbpasswd -a myusername" is sufficient to make it work
Forgot to mention: this is with Ubuntu 20.04. And since I upgraded my
main system 14.04->16.04->18.04->20.04 I also confirmed the brokenness
in a VM with a fresh 20.04 setup, just to convince myself that this
issue actually happens out-of-the-box.

Hi, my 16.04 is suffering from this bug even though a fix has been
released (apparently) 3 years ago.
Here's a (slightly sanitized) snippet of the syslog:

I tried disabling udisks's checking of SMART attributes: open gnome-
disk-utility ("Disks"), select the SSD, click the "hamburger" icon in
the top right corner, SMART, disable. But unfortunately it is
automatically re-enabled after a reboot.
Is there a workaround?

Hi,
I wasn't following this bug until today when I thought enough is enough. (It's
been annoying me for quite some time)
I'm skeptical of the "fix released" status, since I am *still*
experiencing the described behaviour: black or transparent windows.

Hi, this issue is quite bad on Ubuntu 24.04. I have multiple affected
apps, most/all(?) of which are 3rd party apps. But it shouldn't matter
that the affected apps are not from the Ubuntu repositories: they did
work fine in 22.04 and they're also fine on Arch Linux with Gnome.
