I am affected by this too. I found that if i reboot with the external display connected both lvds and external display work. However if i connect the external display after booting with only the lvds screen: then on connection only the external display works. I think this happened recently after

I just download and installed .903 and .904-0ubuntu1 in order testing in between. .903 works .904-0ubuntu1 works then i upgraded to .904ubuntu2 and it also worked fine. I think the display configuration tool is getting confused, but installing a previous version of the driver maybe forced it to c
