Unfortunately, this fix is not permanent and I have broken package
dependencies.
Does anyone know when HP will release a fix for the HPLIP packages?

Thanks Peter.
I installed the deb and things seem to be working perfectly.
Looks like there are no issues with other packages also, so all is well.
Appreciate your help!

I would like to add that this bug occurs during each Ubuntu release
cycle. This is the third time running for me (at least), starting with
11.10.
Thankfully it has been fixed relatively quickly each release. Hopefully
the same happens with 12.10.
Thank you.

Another issue with the workaround is that the backlight does not obey
the ambient light sensor. That is, the backlighting always comes on
regardless of whether there is sufficient light detected or not. While
not ideal, this is better than no backlight at all!
