As a first try let's see if it is a configuration issue. Please move the old
LibreOffice config, by running this at a terminal:

Trouble when removing transitional packages
I'm sorry you had a bad experience with OpenOffice/Ubuntu at the time.
We've improved a lot since then and hope you will take a look at Ubuntu
in the future.
