I've added the Workspace Switcher applet to the bottom panel and set the number
of desktops in it to 4.
The set number of workspaces in it resets to 1 after logging into GNOME 3 Shell

I've noticed this bug when using Ubuntu 11.04 (amd64) with classic GNOME
desktop on two machines.
One machine has nVidia GTS graphics card (with proprietary drivers installed,
still running 11.04), the other has Intel GMA graphics chip (but now it's

the panel when it disappears, loses applets etc.
It's not as violent as killing that process, but still is an overkill when all
is needed is to redraw the panel itself.
Thus, VT switching seems to be the best workaround
As for now, File Roller 3.2.1 puts its temp files not in folders like
'~/.fr-a1b2c3', but in '~/.cache/.fr-a1b2c3', so I've reported that as
bug #883628.

Using the current user profile with an "older" ESR Firefox version (10.0)
resulted in the same buggy functionality;
possibly, the bug is caused by extensions (perhaps, it needs a one-by-one
extensions test);
the problem's gone after cleaning the files where extensions info is stored:
