version of LO. In Calc, I also had tickboxes showing upside down, for

I can confirm this. signon-ui was not yet in the ~30 non-required
rebuild tests that I now do when Qt is being upgraded, so I didn't
notice this earlier. Normal signon was included in the tests and it
built ok like also all the other 30 tested.

I find the recent solution provided by Santiago [1] very
disadvantageous. Shift + Space are frequently used keys for normal
typewriting. To me it now happens very frequently that I accidentally
switch layouts due to my style of writing and use of Shift and Space.

This is indeed true. See bug #1433013. At the moment as a work-around I suggest
to use:
Super -> type xterm -> hit enter
As that has the right environment. Alt-F2 does not have the right env at
the moment.

gnome-session --session=gnome-flashback --disable-acceleration-check

After applying the patch to ubuntu trusty's libvte-2.90-9, I am seeing a
huge improvement in speed.
Please consider merging that patch to mainline LTS branch.
