So there might be more than one bug here. As Raymond pointed out, the surround
speakers get front channel output rather than surround channels.
The patch I just posted fixes that, and to make it easier for you to test, I've
also made a DKMS package. Please install it and reboot (or restart
There shouldn't be any local caching in lightdm, since it just calls
getpwnam() to get the user information. To me that hints that perhaps
/etc/passwd hasn't been completely written to disk by PAM with the new
user at the point lightdm reads it via getpwnam(). I'm not sure if
getpwnam() is reading

- Contents of /etc/pam.d (i.e. your PAM configuration)

1. I change loglevel of signond.conf and see the following from log:

It turned on the LVDS1 but not in a good configuration. The monitor
settings gui then allowed me to adjust things, without forcing the LVDS1

iPhone 5s, iOS 7.0.2, Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
FYI: iTunes in a VMWare WIndows 7 on the same machine works fine (after
disconnect from host and connect to VM).
So it is not a hardware issue and can be fixed in software.

When I run
unity-webapps-runner --amazon --app-id=ubuntu-amazon-default
I see

p.s. my statement - "playing from the center channel, sound comes out
both left and right - correct in stereo " is of course "incorrect". When
the balance is set left - nothing should come out of the right speaker
no matter which channel config is being used and conversely for balance
set to right
