company and we use LDAP authentication and home directories are mounted via
NFS. Most of the machines still runs on 10.04 and only a few have 12.04.

I am using 12.04 and I have tried both 304 drivers and the newest 310
driver and I still have this issue. I run a dual monitor (cloned) setup
and when I press the super key, the dash appears, but the launcher still
does not. The only driver that works for me is 295.40.

I have the same problem in Ubuntu 12.10. I've set up a proxy in my .ssh/config
file, it works on the command line but is ignored if I try to use it in
nautilus.
If I'm not mistaken nautilus uses gvfs as a backend to mount remote filesystem,
dunno if gvfs is supposed to read the ssh configuration
Since I wrote the absolute path of the lyrics folder with dconf-editor
into org.gnome.rhythmbox.plugins.lyrics all lyrics are correctly stored
into this folder.

I'm running Chromium Version 24.0.1312.2 Ubuntu 12.10 (165266) and I do
not see this behavior. The stable PPA for Chromium under ubuntu is being
worked upon. https://launchpad.net/~chromium-daily/+archive/stable is
the link. There is a 3rd party PPA that can be used to get updates and
whilst I and
"sudo apt-get install --reinstall ubuntu-deskto" did the trick!

using pcf/bitmap fonts, but this is not the case. This dynamic column

There is actually nothing that can be done here. Only 1 location on the
screen can be the icon region for an application. If you run more than
1 dock, then they will (at best) fight to set that region. Unity
updates the region more often than say Docky, so it 'wins' in that
situation. There is

If I open Libreoffice Writer and then open a file from withing the
writer, everything works just fine. If I double click on a file (odf
doc etc) the writer opens OK but no menus are available. This is in
12.10 with updates as at today.
