OK - tried that, looked at the recorded video and the cursor was visible
on the recording even though it wasn't on the screen while the recording
was being made.
If we track it down we might have a bug report for recordmydesktop ...
Sorry for the delay - the problem environment involves a part ti
PS - I tried it at home on the Unity GUI and it was OK, which may
explain the lack of deafening complaints. It is only on the classic
GUI, which the work system reverted to because the hardware was not
capable enough.

This is not solely Ubuntu - also happens on my WinXP box with different
hardware. I don't have an account on their bug tracker (and would
prefer not to open one because of their privacy arrangements) so would
you mind processing it please? Just don't bother looking through
Ubuntu first.

Oops - I should make it clear it is the Select pointer that does not
show. If I choose an object type to draw the cross hairs render as I
would expect.
