This problem is affecting WSLg too (WSL2 GUI), see this issue

affected there, but for each of them, it's probably hundreds more just
not having reported the issue.

Nvidia users might have bug 2062082 to blame here. Please try:
sudo apt install libnvidia-egl-wayland1
and reboot. So maybe it's really two issues:
* Nvidia is using Zink when it shouldn't (bug 2062082)
* For non-Nvidia systems that might need Zink, it doesn't work (bug 2066353)
