I'm seeing this as well.
I have a Wayland session, from which I ssh to another host and run geany
(forwarded over ssh).
Gnome-shell immediately crashes.
Interestingly, forwarding xterm from the remote host does not cause a
crash.

I've tried removing them all, and still seeing the crash. Of interest
though, it looks like only some apps using the indicator are triggering
the crash. For example, starting mattermost-desktop or discord triggers
the crash when it registers the appindicator. But starting telegram-
desktop doesn

can't reproduce this crash. So my next suspicion is that it may be

I tried disabling the system extensions and logging in again, which did
work. I was able to reenable them all and gnome-shell was still working
again. Then of interest, launching an app that uses an appindicator
caused the shell to crash. I can reliably reproduce this, the
appindicator extension
