Not sure whether this is the same issue. Since I moved to Ubuntu 17.10 I cannot copy and paste from gedit anymore. If I open gedit, write something, and then try to paste it in Firefox it does not work. When I try to paste, I get the following line in the stderr of gedit: (gedit:#): Gdk-WARNIN
