System locks with kernel 3.16 from Sparky Linux as well.

Galen Thurber, just to advise, you don't have to apport-collect further
unless specifically requested to do so.
Despite this, the latest mainline kernel is 4.1-rc6 (not 4.1-rc2).

and nouveau
mouse & keyb lockup, audio kept streaming, video froze.
ssh into sick machine, load was very load, no high CPU usage.

system properties claim 1 propriety driver is in use,
but
lsmod shows no such nvidia driver
/var/log/Xorg.0.log
shows nvidia fails to load.
I will try nouveau
but hoping to be able to go back to 3.16 kernel with 304 driver

logged into sick machine via remote via ssh,
monitored dmesg
and top
sick machine locked up
top cpu usage ~99% for XORG
watchdog would grab CPU for a second over a 10 second range.
sick machine created large kern.log
sick machine mouse would eventually freeze (keyboard freezes at lock up)

I will test mainline kernels soon.
Ran fwts against latest BIOS.
It did find errors.

locking after updating.
