1) Fresh install -- all AOK
2) Upgrade from 3.2.0-37-generic to 3.2.0-40-generic.
3) Reboot -- GRUB loads then screen bri

On my Acer TimelineX, I have the same problem as that described above.
However, it doesn't occur all of the time with the new 3.2.0-40-generic
x64 kernel. Sometimes it boots fine. About 3/4 of the time though the
screen shuts off.
